How Does it Work?
Why has the CATCLAMP been so successful? Let’s go through the layers of protection engineered and built into the CATCLAMP.
The thief most likely has a battery powered reciprocating saw with one blade and 30 seconds of time to do the crime. The thief slides under the vehicle thinking it’s going to be another 30 second cash job when everything goes wrong.
First a massive, impenetrable cage made from specially designed heavy duty aircraft wire rope encases the entire converter. The wire rope is nearly impossible to cut without industrial machines. The cage has SECURITY DEVICE in very large print and depending on the model it may have the vehicles V.I.N. # stamped on it. The cage is locked to the frame of the vehicle with the same heavy duty aircraft wire rope used to make up the cage. There is no way for the thief to get the converter out of the cage under the vehicle in a timely effortless manner. If the thief can read and has even a shred of common sense they will leave and find an easier target.
In a rare case the thief may cut the exhaust pipe on either side of the CatClamp. The converter will drop down but the frame loops will save your precious converter leaving you with a $50 weld repair instead of a having to buy a new one and possibly a $2500 repair bill.
The Mechanics of it
The CatClamp has two specially designed split collars with a security bolt and key design that lock tight to the exhaust pipe on either side of the converter, similar to a muffler clamp except it uses a key (1 key per vehicle included). This feature allows the CatClamp to be removed for adjustment, converter service or other mechanical work the vehicle may need that requires the exhaust to be removed from the vehicle. This feature also allows the CatClamp to be used on more than one vehicle. CATCLAMP MAXX models are made entirely from stainless steel so they will virtually last forever. These are all features exclusive to the CatClamp and not offered by the competition.
Specially designed heavy duty wire ropes are secured to the collar halves. The top section of collars with the wire ropes is placed over the top of the catalytic converter, and the bottom section of collars with the wire ropes is placed underneath the converter. This unique design allows the CatClamp to protect all size and shape converters.
The two collar halves are bolted together and tightened securely to the exhaust pipe. This creates a heavy duty cage around the entire converter. The cage is also locked to the vehicle frame or cross member with the same heavy duty wire rope.
The specially designed wire rope is nearly impossible to cut without using industrial machines creating too much work for a thief in a hurry. The CatClamp will not affect the function of the catalytic converter. The CatClamp can be installed by anyone with basic mechanical knowledge in 20-30 minutes using common tools and the installation/removal tool (included). There is no cutting drilling or welding involved in the installation process.
